CCT - Career Counselling for Teachers

is a European programme designed to provide internet-based counselling for pupils and students who are thinking of embarking on a teacher-training course, and for teachers who either wish to take up other positions in the field of education or who want to leave education altogether. For this target group, CCT provides information and self-discovery techniques which may help to underpin such career decisions and assist in realising them. Materials comprise a common core for all European countries, and country-specific elements. They are stored in the CCT server in Linz (Austria) and can be accessed and serviced by the CCT representatives of each country.

The object of the course is to enable the participants to operate as official CCT representatives in their respective countries. Their content-related tasks involve adapting CCT content to the specific conditions of individual countries, adding country-specific content and playing an active role in the continuous development of CCT. Their organisation-related tasks comprise establishing and maintaining contacts with educational authorities, with counselling institutions and with teacher-training institutions in their countries with the aim of providing and ensuring the legal and financial basis for the implementation of CCT in their respective countries and of assisting in the dissemination of the programme.

The necessary theoretical information on fundamental aspects of CCT and the practical skills necessary for its implementation will be imparted during the course, in its preparatory stages, or in the post-course analysis stage. By the end of the course, operational country-specific websites should have been set up which can then be gradually refined by the course participants under the guidance of the course team.

The benefits for participating countries lie in the chance to attract suitable persons to the teaching profession and to support the professional development of teachers. The course participants are given the chance to make use of their creativity in designing counselling materials and in disseminating it Europe-wide, as well as to gain access to data which - if suitable - can be used in their own research projects.

  • Monday, April 14 09.00 - 12.30, 14.30 - 18.00 Talk: chances and limitations of internet-based counselling Workshop: creating informational texts, first-hand reports and link lists
  • Tuesday, April 15 09.00 - 12.30, 14.30 - 18.00 Talk: theoretical and empirical fundamentals of the self-discovery techniques in CCT Workshop: adapting self-discovery techniques to country-specific environments.
  • Wednesday, April 16 09.00 - 12.30 Workshop: adapting a guided tour to country-specific environments.
  • Afternoon: suggested programme: a trip to the environs of Vienna – in fine weather, or a cultural programme – in rainy weather.

  • Thursday, April 17 09.00 - 12.30, 14.30 - 18.00 Talk: questionnaire – and feedback data as a basis for developing CCT further. Workshop: analysing questionnaires and feedback data

Certification awarded

On successfully completing the course, participants will be given certification of participation in the course on implementing CCT. This certificate is the equivalent of 35 taught units (presence) and 95 taught units (distance learning). For this, participants are credited with 5 ects points. Successfull participation in the course entitles and obliges the participants to act as CCT representatives in their respective countries. As such, they are entitled to adapt any CCT material to their country-specific environment and to publish their own materials within the framework of CCT. They accept responsibility to implement CCT in their own countries. Resigning from the position of CCT representative and renouncing the corresponding rights and obligations is possible at any time.

  • Accommodation (single room) and meals (full board) from April 13 (starting with dinner) to April 18 (finishing with lunch),
  • Course: 35 units and pre-and post-session counselling,
  • Handouts,
  • Setting up an internet framework in the participant’s home country (domain, homepage, user access).
There is the possibility of arriving earlier, on April 12, and staying on in the hotel (Gästehaus) until April 21. Each additional night is € 54. It is also possible to have a double room instead of a single. Extra costs: € 27 / night The additional costs for a longer stay or a double room have to be covered together with the course fee.

What you need to know for your stay

Arrival From the airport there is a shuttle bus service to the “Hotel Hilton City Air Terminal“. There, you get on the Underground Line 3 (Stop: “Landstraße/Wien Mitte”, Ottakring bound) and get off at “Herrengasse”. From there you can walk to Schottenstift. It takes about 45 minutes in all. From Vienna West Station, take the Underground Line 3, Simmering bound, and get off at „Herrengasse“. From there you can walk to Schottenstift. It takes about 20 minutes in all. The bus ticket, € 5.80, can be bought on the bus, the Underground tickets are available from the ticket sales offices of the Vienna Transport Authority, from tobacconists and from vending machines in the underground stations. Sigthseeing The “Benediktushaus“ is right in the centre of Vienna, only a few minutes’ walking distance of the course venue, “Palais Ferstel“, and such famous Viennese sights as St Stephen’s Cathedral, the Imperial Palace and the State Opera. Visits to these sights, as well as the Viennese museums (e.g., Sigmund-Freud Museum, Vienna’s Albertina, or the Austrian Gallery Belvedere) can be organised individually. One afternoon is reserved for a tour of the environs of Vienna and a visit to a ”heuriger“ wine tavern on the outskirts of the city. Additional activities can be arranged if there is any demand. Timetable up to the beginning of the course

  • From March 1: The participants will be sent selected texts from the website (frames, feedback form, etc.) which have to be translated from English into the language of the respective country.
  • As soon as possible after that, but definitely before March 21: Return of the translated texts to project assistant Caroline Weigner (c.weigner@ist.eduhi.at).
  • On receipt of the course fee: Enabling access to the websites of the respective countries.
